In 2001, exports from Denmark to Kenya amounted to 158 million DKK and imports from Kenya to Denmark 34,6 million DKK.

Trade promotion is one of the activities carried out of the Royal Danish Embassy and the Commercial Section offers its services to Danish companies as well as Kenyan companies which are looking for Danish suppliers and/or products.


Kenya's leading markets include the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), which absorbed 46% of exports in 2000, the European Union 31,1% and the Middle and Far East 16,5%. The key exports include tea 18,7%, transportation 16,7%, horticulture 11,3%, tourism 10,4%, coffee 6,2% and petroleum products 5,0%. The main sources of Kenya's imports in 2000 were the Middle and Far East 49.5%, the European Union 34% and COMESA 9.2%. The main imports are oil and machinery.

Kenyan companies wanting to invest in Denmark should be aware of the possibilities of forming joint-ventures with support from the Danish Industrialization Fund for Developing Countries (IFU). Various types of cooperation between Danish and Kenyan companies can also benefit from the Private Sector Development Programme (PSDP) which is part of Danish Development Assistance to Kenya (see this).

The Commercial Section may assist in identifying importers in Denmark. However, a fee is charged for such assistance, at present KES 6,000 or DKK 600 per hour.
